update on ghetto apartment
** cue the theme song for Sanford and Son ... **
So there really isn't one. Went by there last week, looks about the same as when i was there previously, with the exception of the 2 inch layer of drywall dust all over EVERYTHING (no one covered anything for protection). All of the equipment is still all over the outside and inside of my apartment and now my door doesn't lock properly.
There is talk about it being finished sometime this month but until i hear from them - it's all up in the air.

I'm sorry darlin' - it sucks to be homeless, even temporarily.

thanks bikeguy ... it really really does - esp when you realize how long it's taken me to have my own place. oh well.
and yes, my landlord is a moron darth ... but i wrote a letter to him and to his parents (who are the real owners) stating the unsatisfactory behavior and copied the local tenant legal clinic here (i've already talked to them) stating that there will be no rent paid for this month either. and i have to take inventory of all the broken items when i get back in there - there are 3 so far ... one is a very old wedding present from rotterdam ... cannot replace it.
ugh

I know it's a complicated issue, but is there no chance to walk away from the lease? You'd be out the rent you've paid to date and your security deposit, but you could make a pretty good case the apartment was unlivable and the landlord did nothing to correct it. It would cost him more to pursue legal action against you than he'd ever hope to gain (unless he's got a lawyer in his family).
Failing that, you could always send him anonymous gifts, like bouquets of dead flowers and gift wrapped boxes of roadkill.
Just a thought.

to move out or not to move out ... well, i have thought about it ... but i really really REALLY don't want to move AGAIN until everything in my life is in place (ie with *d*). the moving costs alone are too much for me to handle right now because i didn't plan on this. so, i guess for now i just try to figure out what i can day to day. you never know what you can get along without until you do it!

On the upside, when you do sort this shit out - you're really, really going to appreciate having a place to call home.
Good luck - hope it works out quickly.
Love your writing, BTW!
